Day 3 of Our Adventure – Learning to Solve Problems…

The day started loading up and securing the RV for travel in the rain of course! We can’t seem to catch a break from the rain as we leave the KOA in Elizabethtown, PA. The day has been one of problem solving since the start with missing our first turn right out of the campground. We took a tour of the subdivision before finally getting back on track. The trip through Pennsylvania, Maryland, and West Virginia went off with out a hitch with even getting gas at the Flying J. We love the RV gas spots at Flying J. The fun began when we stopped at Sheetz’s for lunch about 90 minutes from our next stop in Salem, Virginia. By the way, Pennsylvania still has the worst roads so far, I knew you were wondering.

We finished lunch at Sheetz’s, which is not the best place when it comes to gas station food, and headed back to do a quick inspection of the truck and RV. To our surprise the one bike had come loose on the rail and it was dangerously close to falling off the RV. As you can see in the picture the cover is not holding up well and it will need to be replaced. So we get the repairs done and get the bike back in place. We then head out and Theresa realizes she doesn’t have her purse or phone. So she hops out of the truck at the intersection and tells me to just put the flashers on and she will be right back. I don’t listen as usual and make a quick right and turnaround through the gas station to pick her up with purse and phone in hand. So as you can see stopping at Sheetz’s was good and bad. So off we go for the last 90 minutes to arrive at Dixie Caverns in Salem, VA. We are excited as we pull off the highway and only have two right turns left to get there. Next problem to solve presents itself…

Of course as the day started with us missing our turn, we missed our final turn. So I am not happy and that does not lend itself to good decision making. I take the first left turn with not really thinking how I am going to turn the RV around. I quickly realize my options are limited and turn on a road that goes to the county jail with signs indicating we were not welcome. Only option is to back it up and turnaround the rig, which is not what I wanted with backing up still a skill I am learning. I begin backing uo and forgot all the tips and begin to feel very uneasy as Theresa is coaching and encouraging me to settle me down. Well it started out rough and cars kept coming which only compounded my anxiety and disbelief that I put us in this situation. Theresa was amazing and she coached me to getting the rig turned around. At this point, I needed a shot of tequila to calm my nerves. Now we are headed back to our turn and when we get there I am no confident it is the right place and Theresa was ready to kick me out of the truck and drive it into the parking lot. It was the right place and it would be great if they put a sign on the brick monument which I am sure is for a sign! Now we are finally here for our one night stay at the Dixie Caverns RV Park. It is not anything special but it works for a one night stay. We are surrounded by the Blueridge Mountains which is s site to see. Rainy and fogged in tonight so looking to take pictures tomorrow.

Now about to my Crown on the rocks…I will report more after we get to our resort outside of Nashville tomorrow
