Day 7 – Welcome to Arkansas…The Natural State

We started our day as we typically do on a travel day reviewing the checklists. One change was no rain but it rained plenty throughout the night. So we are continuing our streak of rain everyday so far. We met our neighbors who arrived the night before and they were seasoned travelers from Florida. As we have learned in our first week that the RV community is friendly and always willing to share advice with rookie RV enthusiast such as ourselves. We successfully completed tear down and hook up and we were on the road right on time. We are getting better and more skilled each time but as Theresa reminds me it has only been a week.

Theresa is now the navigator and decision maker on stops for gas and food. So the choice today was Loves at the half way point and upon exiting it looked to be a good choice. As we got closer, which all I cared about at this point is getting parked and to the restroom. After taking care of the important stuff, I realized the gas pump situation was not for us or any RV due to the brilliance of the designers on putting parking that bookend the pumps. So strike one for Theresa on this choice, to be fair the Loves stop earlier in the week was perfect. We then proceeded down the road to stop at a Speedy’s which was the beginning of me getting hangry. The pump I choose said I had to pay inside so not happy and then I go inside where I have to do math to figure out how much gas I need. In choose $50, which by the way was pretty close. The bad thing about this stop was no good food choices, so I proceed to head back down the road as Theresa is unwrapping string cheese and shoving at me as she has seen the hangry Chris and she is very annoyed. Not just one string cheese but two which does the trick. We then proceed to have GPS issues and I was the help desk for helping Theresa navigate the app on her phone to get us back to the GPS functioning. Now that we are gassed up and I have eaten with GPS working again we are rolling down the road enjoying the trip once again.

Road ratings update as I had mentioned before that Tennessee roads were not bad and Pennsylvania still have the worst. A change in the worst roads presented itself today as we were traveling through Memphis. I am surprised that the cabinets, TV, the bikes and the pantry was not strewn all over the RV. So Memphis has the trophy now for worst roads after the first week of traveling nearly 1,300 miles.

We have safely arrived and set-up at the Delta Ridge RV Park in beautiful Forrest City, Arkansas. We set-up quickly in nearly 100 degree weather and turn on the A/C to cool the RV down. We are famished and looking for a place to cool down so we head over to the Ole Saw Mill Cafe, AKA the first Cracker Barrel. Well it looked a lot like a Cracker Barrel anyway. We first notice that it is a buffet and almost left but then I noticed menu options as well. We decide to check it out and we were not disappointed. I chose the buffet as it was seafood Friday and Theresa ordered off the menu. The buffet was literally a seafood tower with oysters on the half shell, peel and eat shrimp, crawfish, calamari, grilled white fish, seafood pasta, seafood egg rolls, fried shrimp, broiled shrimp, clams and so much more! Almost forgot, even frog legs which by the way were delicious. And to wrap up the great dinner was freshly made peach cobbler which was amazing. The Southern Hospitality was amazing and the pride and care for providing a great experience was refreshing to experience. Highly recommend stopping for a meal if you are traveling on I-40 in Forrest City, Arkansas.

We are excited to head to Oklahoma tomorrow to spend the week with family. Thanks for following us and I hope we bring a smile to your face as we share our travel experiences. Cheers!
