Day 39 & 40: Exploring Dillon, Montana & Travel Day to Flathead Lake Montana

We spent our one day in Dillon, Montana visiting Virginia City. Virginia City was a popular place due to the Gold Rush in the the late 1800’s. The town was preserved in the 1940’s. This preservation was to keep the history and look of the town alive for visitors to experience. We enjoyed the history lesson but were disappointed in the continued preservation of the old buildings. It was a good day trip but I would recommend other points of interest if in the area.

We wrapped up the day with preparing for the road trip to Flathead Lake Montana. We are so excited as this is our stop to visit Glacier National Park. We will spend a week here. We will start with a tour of Glacier on day one. Then, we’ll have a float trip on the Flathead river on day two.

We headed out on day 40 with a late start and enjoyed a great drive across Montana. Theresa was the master navigator with a great pit stop for gas and lunch at McDonald’s. We rolled into a beautiful RV site which is very secluded in the woods and off the beaten path. We worked as a team and quickly completed the setup. We are such a great team! Another great set-up and we then scouted a local place to eat. We found the Flathead Lake Brewery which was close by in Big Fork, Montana. Great food and it is right on the lake. We stopped by the store after dinner to stock up for the week. We are eager to try the local Flathead Cherries. They are sold at fruit stands along the road from town to our RV site.

Tomorrow is the big day. We will spend the entire day on The Going to the Sun Road Tour through Glacier National Park. We have an early start so off to bed we go.
